Five Principles of Intergenerational Learning

5 Main Principles of Intergenerational Learning

Whole Community Catechesis as St. Anne’s continues to Journey in Faith

  1. Conversion precedes catechesis.
  • Intellectual understanding of faith comes after developing a relationship with Jesus
  • Then prayer and doctrine have a deeper meaning
  • Vibrant celebrated liturgies gives opportunity for people to share faith
  • Balance between information and formation supports ongoing process of conversion

  1. Faith sharing among all ages is at the heart of the catechetical process.
  • Special attention in providing opportunities in developing skills needed in faith sharing with the awareness that it is intergenerational.
  • WCC seeks to encourage faith sharing – central role in building faith

  1. Faith is lived outside of the parish buildings.
  • Offer support and assistance to diverse households
  • Embraces all households
  • Seeks to enrich the catechesis that occurs naturally
  • Provides resources that help people integrate faith and life

  1. How we gather supports catechesis.
  • Pay attention to who we gather with and different way in which we gather
  • Both are incredible moments of catechesis
  • Workshops, catechetical assemblies, grade-level classroom-even in our households or celebrations at home are central to who we are as Catholics
  • Ways we gather provide an environment for exploring faith together.

  1. The whole community catechizes and is catechized by engaging in service.
  • Outreach, service and commitment to justice are all forms of catechesis which the whole community provides
  • Infusing service, programs and gatherings provide opportunities for a vision for the social ministry of the church
  • We can better catechize and evangel others as well as ourselves.
