The primary
purposes of Newman Catholic Elementary School at St. Anne
are to increase and strengthen the knowledge and love of our Catholic
faith and to create an environment where children feel valued and
loved. Our school offers preschool through fifth grade classes and
serves approximately three hundred students. We have three sessions of
preschool and two sections each of kindergarten through fifth grade. We
offer the option of half-day kindergarten. Our average class size is
twenty-two.
Faculty
The teachers and staff believe that it takes guidance, instilling a
sense of purpose and reinforcing values taught at home to prepare a
child for adulthood. We share with parents a commitment to pass on
Catholic values and to help students reach their full potential. We
provide a value-based education, high academic standards and a loving
discipline that prompts parents to send their children to our school.
Our aim is to prepare the children to be leaders not only in the world,
but also in the Catholic Church.
St.
Anne's teachers offer a wide variety of teaching methods, including the
teaching of phonics, a whole language approach, cooperative learning
and self-paced education. A strong foundation in reading, math and
science is provided. We have twenty degreed and Wisconsin licensed
teachers on staff including art, music, physical education and computer
specialists. We have a computer lab with thirty-one networked
computers, Internet accessibility and an LCD projector. Each classroom
is equipped with additional computers and is Internet wired. We teach
keyboarding and other technology skills to all students, and each class
from preschool to fifth grade has weekly scheduled computer classes. We
have a well-equipped library with a librarian on staff.
Faith
Religion is taught everyday and our pastor takes an active weekly role
in this instruction. Students and staff celebrate a special children's
liturgy weekly and join in prayer services during Advent and Lent. The
beautiful traditions of the church such as the lighting of the Advent
wreath, May Crowning, Stations of the Cross and Adoration of the
Blessed Sacrament are an important part of the religious education in
our school.
Special Needs
Two teachers work in a Special Needs Program. One is a Reading Resource
teacher who works with small groups of children to strengthen their
reading skills. Another teacher works one on one with children needing
individual attention in various subjects or with small motor control
skills.
Cocurricular/Athletics
In addition to regular music classes, third, fourth, and fifth graders
may choose to participate in a special choir and recorder group. Fifth
graders are offered free band lessons, participate in the DARE program,
and may join a basketball league. Basketball camps are held for
children in grades one to five. Students participate in several
art, speech and writing contests. All
students participate in educational field trips and spend time at the
school forest. Believing in the importance of community service, our
students participate in many projects and activities. We have a
Parents' Club which meets once a month to assist teachers, and an
active Home and School Association. Parents are welcomed and encouraged
to help in the classrooms and with many activities throughout the
school.
Most importantly, we have a group of children, teachers,
and staff who have a positive attitude, who love and support each other
and work so well together to create a special place. If you would like
the love and knowledge of your child's faith to be increased
strengthened, and if you would like their religion to be a part of
their education, please call for more information and to schedule a
visit.
